| I had never heard of this movie before my 16-year-old son of a rental video. It's very funny. Think of "Babe" as that produced by the Marx Brothers, using singing cockroaches instead of mice. Obviously the critics did not like much, and I can see how they might not see it as great art, but as entertainment and an enjoyable time in the land of fantasy, which up there with the best of them, in my opinion. |
| As someone who normally appreciates the absurdity and likes many "black comedies," I was a little disappointed in this. I mean, showing cockroaches that speak and sing sounded hilarious, so the rental of VHS shortly after he left, but did not find the dark humor as good as I expected. Someone told me this film was very rough, but did not consider the case. It is not bad in that department. It simply is not as much fun as you might hope. Furthermore, let's be honest: How many people want to see cockroaches over an hour? How many want to see one for a minute? Not many. Cockroaches have to be one of the most disgusting creatures on earth. However, with the courage to make a film about them, as well as their singing and dancing, especially in a Busby Berkeley-type number, it is quite shameful and deserves an "E for effort," as the saying used to go. I think this would have been more tolerable, and funny, had it been a short film, something around 20-30 minutes. It might even have won awards for "Best Short Film." But the "joke" is beginning to use thin after a while. However, if you're looking for something completely different and that are difficult to offend, look no further! |
| Spoilers here. This is a success in the dimension. And since even some movies that have, perhaps we should celebrate. What's it sucks the normal mix of what normally makes a movie: the story (in particular, the humor in the story), the acting, production and so on. But what works is a relative lack of restriction on what happens with errors. The Disney organization created a code that has become dogma. It sets a very serious limitations on what a cartoon character can do in terms of bending of reality or normalcy in behavior. Therefore, Donald might be crazy, but does not turn itself inside out. Goofy's nose could stretch, but it has a nose. Walt was the assumption that the characters are substitutes for people and if you break that barrier, which bring into question the whole of the comedies and drama that appropriates the conventions of real life. Basically the whole world is following this rule, and has prospered. The alternative world of animated creatures has a predictability to it. Ah, but that the wall of the expectations is a matter of humor too - weird humor - humor of the Marx Brothers variety. And here we have a Lenny Bruce-like perforation of the wall. His scandalous in the kind of form of South Park that sometimes was. The routines of Busby Berkeley had me really. Steam was over long before the final.
