| The FBI profiler is called in retirement to find a serial murderer. And as Agent Starling in The Silence of the Lambs, which enlists the help of a Hannibal the Cannibal Lechter (Cox). An immediate wait for the film revolve around their hard line. However, the focus of this movie lies in its efforts to find the murderer. Lechter we see only a few times and the inevitable comparisons with the Hopkins' Lechter are really unnecessary. But here we go anyway ...... He is not as rare in this film that is stored in a clinical environment, rather than the grimy dungeon contained in the silence of the lambs. The serial murderer is the typical type of predators, but is not as strange as the type of "Lambs "..... Bizarre no nude dancing this time. The plot is a notch above your standard fare of detective and we have some interesting lighting and camera work. However, this gives the film a movie to watch TV (like the clothes of the 80s and hairstyle). Although, I must admit, the 80 styles that look better the 70s if you're keeping score. Manhunter is worth seeking if you are interested in the series of Hannibal. Otherwise he was not missing much. |
| This was the first look at Hannibal Lechter, but I really do not have the impact of "The Silence of the Lambs" and the following two films also address Lechter. Those - "Hannibal" and "Red Dragon" (a re-make of this movie) - all of them Anthony Hopkins as the famous criminal. Hopkins' take on "the character was so memorable, so fascinating that he made his own. In this film, Lechter is not memorable. Few people can say they played in this movie. The answer: Brian Cox. That does not mean that it is a bad movie. It is not, but it is of great vibration, either. The first half was very suspenseful, but the second half of the movie is disappointing. It is interesting to look back now and see a young Bill Peterson at the helm. I am used to watching television CSI as a star more mature "Gil Grissom." I saw this movie in the 80s before I knew Petersen, Cox, Hopkins and the rest ..... and it was better. Sorry to say, the other films simply have eclipsed that effort. |
| Well ... Now I was really very open to see this film without worrying too much whether or not it was going to be bad. But I'm watching this on the day before Hannibal comes out and I love SOTL. So I'm sitting here thinking about what kind of film I am considering the book is the best thing ever printed. Well, to make things short, this movie is bad. I can not say decent. I am reading all the comments and others who say that the performance and the camera was phenominal. I do not want to throw up. Do not give me that 80 of the jargon because they live in the 80's does not mean they can not be creative or talented. This is a bad movie that butchered a good story and I want to blow chunks. However, the worst part was the soundtrack. We can say is inappropriate? The person in charge of the thing that I wanted to hear their favorite songs hit the film so that everyone could agree with him. There is no suspense music (or lack of it ... it would have been a cool effect) Nothing! Everything was horrible. I give this (perhaps) 1 out of 10 stars. |
| Apart from the very good performance from William Petersen L, Michael Mann and slick direction, this movie is more of a TV movie of the week as a real thriller. The film is nothing more than a vague attempt to please the 80 sad nerds who need to look good. You do not have the huge emotion of the film Hannibal others, and does not have the kind of the recent movie Red Dragon. It is worth a look Petersen, but the performance of others, do not bother. |
| "Manhunter" (1986) directed by Michael Mann - is a masterpiece, pure and simple. It took me five times, but finally I realized that. I see it as the best adaptation of a favorite book written on the subject of serial murderers and investigation of their crimes. They also discovered William Blake and his fascinating art, including painting that gave the title of his book, "Red Dragon", thanks to Mr Harris. Michael Mann doubt read the book "Red Dragon" before he began work on the film and was able to get inside it, as well as the book's main character, Will Graham was able to reach a murderer within the mind. The scene where Graham (William Peterson) discovers that the murderer will make me tremble every time I see the film. I can not recall another "moment of truth" as a powerful and convincing as this. It is more powerful than the similar scene in "The Sound of the Lambs," where Claris Starling in numbers and that when the "Buffalo Bill" can be. Michael Mann took his time to understand how important the scene and received a royal treatment in the movie. I used to be disappointed that Mann cut the book is very impressive ending, but after many viewings, I understand why he did it. For me, the whole movie was to create a "moment of truth" and scene after Graham figured that the murderer was making us the participants of the process, no matter (at least for me) how to Francis capture "Red Dragon" Dolarhyde. |
