| I keep wondering why this film was made. It tells the fictional story of Mary, a single mother (Catherine Zeta Jones), who struggle to make a living as a psychic in a cabaret, using his good looks, deception and artificiality pick pocketing most of the skills of real psychic powers to entertain the working class crowds. She is assisted by her daughter, Benji (Saoirse Ronan of "Atonement"), whose main objective seems to be bombard us with more redundant and annoying narration that I have experienced. Mary and Benji make it a point to address the great Houdini (played by Guy Pearce, so good in Memento) and gain financially from the encounter. Of course, what begins as the deceit becomes true love. No matter the woman at home and the fact that Mary lives in a backyard grave. This is a misguided effort to Gillian Armstrong, an irregular director whose best films, My Brilliant Career, high tide and unwieldy, it is too long to redeem his reputation after'Charlotte Gray. " She is not the help of the script that is actually worse than the Brothers of the Head (Tony GRISONI) and the interpreter (Brian Ward), who co-wrote. Magician / Illusionist stories are notoriously difficult to make interesting and Death Defying Acts is no exception. |
| When I saw the name of the movie ... I thought: 'What the hell? " ... but anyway ... a friend of mine was so excited that I had to do. I started the movie and I liked the way the painted film ... lighten the ... very good ... Harry Houdini, but it is undoubtedly the man we see in the film. Here, it seems like an arrogant man who instantly falls in love with a girl. Apart from that, Zeta-Jones is back once-great and that kept me at the next movie ... i was really interested and I thought the girl was too great ... I recommend the movie ... not a brilliant ... a to see a more when there is nothing better =) |
| This film is about a woman who works as an artist with trying to mislead into believing that Harry Houdini has psychic powers. "Death Defying Acts" sounds like an action movie, but the poster looks more like a romantic movie. In fact, it is neither. It is a drama develops slowly about how the attempts of Mary with Harry, Harry, and how it falls. As Houdini is the greatest escape artist of all time, a movie about him should have been thrilling, exciting and challenging even death. However, this film has none of these attributes. The plot is slow, clear and not at all exciting. There is not much tension or drama to captivate me. I do not care about the characters, and whatever the relationship between them. There is little chemistry between Guy Pearce and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Frankly, I think that both are miscast. Fortunately, Saoirse Ronan is delicious as the Sidekick psychic. She is to save the movie. "Death Defying Acts" turns out to be a hole. I'm very disappointed for him. |
| Another magician in the movie? However, The Illusionist and The Prestige were great films, so why not? Catherine Zeta Jones plays a foxy, still poor, mother, Swindle away for life pretending to be a psychic. When Guy Pearce of Houdini comes to town to prove or disprove the existence of the paranormal, who come into contact. It's a bit sad and hope for a movie. A little too "emotional" for me and too little about the true nature of Harry Houdini, except his fascination with the death of his mother. The script itself does not lend itself to praise, but the atmosphere and conduct are first class. Bottom line: see that when you are in a mood for a drama-rom, but you do not care much about the subject. |
| Directorate of good taste seems to kill any chance to get a glimpse of what the characters in this movie could have been very similar. It's like a museum very separate piece created by a suburban sense conservative who wants everything to be seen in the best light possible. Houdini was a very tough ex-circus performer .. a guy who started in the scummiest landfills and worked his way up .. and Edinburgh, the music hall scene was absurd. I went to music rooms in Edinburgh in the 1950s, and you can smell the beer and body odor, listen to the signal to place calls Cat, swearing, SMART-aleck remarks .. Thin is not in the presentation .. and this is supposed to be much crude 1920. daintiness That appears to extend to women with the artists, who should be the best dressed, better fed couple of slappers in the history .. and how Ms Zeta Jones is so boring? She used to be so full of enthusiasm and Sass. There is very little enthusiasm and Sass in this script or in this movie. |
