| A very poignant, beautifully made film. As I have not read the book, I am not in a position to compare the two. But the movie is enough: the action is great, although we have only snippets of each actress / actor. The message is wonderful, and the soundtrack is equally poignant. I would recommend to anyone in love, or making a decision about love. Inspiration abounds in this film about a young woman about to marry and in the process of building a house with her boyfriend. As she takes the summer off of him to write a thesis and stay with her grandmother and Great Aunt, she is in the midst of making a quilt for her wedding. It also is a very attractive young man, his tempting trap. What follows are stories told by and about each one of the women in the quilting circle. The young woman discovers that love is not perfect, and that you should take advantage of what you have, and that there is beauty in the familiar. |

| This movement is not for everyone. For some it may be too "girl flickish" burly of men out there. But for the rest of us, look at that! If you like "The Joy luck club", but didn't feel that it could refer to it because you are not from Asia, perhaps this is the one for you. The story is about growth and finding love and friendships that last a lifetime. I know they consider it important. The booth of a truth here is the music. I'm a huge fan of music from the movie, and I think that started because of this movie. Heart gets to the right of the image. They say a picture is worth a thousand words ... and the soundtrack of Thomas Newman (American Beauty) blows the lid a thousand words! Its more than his words .. and the excitement that filled that place in your soul that only music can. It is really that dramatic? Well I'm sorry if it is, but I just want everyone to at least feel the music. Therefore, this movement to rent or buy the soundtrack if you are a great lover of music. There are also some great oldies on the soundtrack, too! |
