Dark City was one of the most ambiguous movies I've seen in a long time. It might be best described as a mystery / sci-fi fantasy film where the characters are placed out of time and out of place. The film definitely has style. From that era, I'm not sure. It is a mixture of America in the 1920s (for the style of clothing, automobiles), and 30, 40 and 50 of ... I thought that the intentional mixture of culture at different times really contributed to the mystique (and confusion) of the film. However, I can not comment on the plot. I see that some members of the audience would feel frustrated at seeing that movie. Nothing really much sense the first time. It is, well, strange to say the least. But watching the movie gave me a feeling of desperation, fear and oppression. The dark, damp and dirty streets of the city really created an atmosphere of horror and suffocation. I thought that Jennifer Connelly was brilliant and beautiful. In general, this is a nice movie. |
