First mistake of this film was the market (after all, it's all about marketing) billing as a thriller / action movie with some paranormal bias was wrong. This is strictly a psychological drama with zero paranormal things in it. Second mistake was to realize real and not overly idealized or artistic to stay away from sensitive issues: race, police prejudice, social differences. Therefore, if you went to the movie theater or renting to see an exciting action movie right to remain on the surface of shock and entertainment value, you will be disappointed. It is a well-acted, well-built and most importantly, the realistic drama in which a white woman blames the kidnapping of his son as a carjack conducted by an African-American male. As far as I am concerned, there are no stereotypes, just realism. There was no lining in the moralistic virtues of either side. In fact, this is a very deep exploration of the reasons for lying, being racist, to the prejudice and fear to resist the fact that social interaction between rich and poor, black and white, civilian police and probably will be a fair in the near future ... Not now. My only concern is to see Moore so stressed during the 90% of the film, pretty impressive performance. I only hope that this is not like your kind of casting. |
I was at the preview screening of this movie with some anticipation - especially after seeing the promising trailer and noting that Julianne Moore, Samuel L. Jackson and Edie Falco were in it. Unfortunately, without a doubt, this movie is just one of the worst I've ever seen. The screenplay is inconsistent: Is it a thriller? a story of ghosts? socioeconomic a statement? a pseudo-psychological MOW? The players seem to be characters from different movies that can not communicate with each other here, it's almost as if they were calling from different dimensions. Moore's performance is exaggerated and even incoherent at times - against a flat surprisingly Jackson. The film is obvious and self-indulgent on the pretext of making an "important" political statement, it feels forced and trite - and ends with a "twist" that is entirely predictable from the beginning. On the rare occasions when the message is clear, the issue is now, we have heard all this before. . . and much more entertaining and insightful ways. The film opens with the promise of some spectacular, but the wind quickly - increasingly stale and boring as the minutes tick by. Do not hold you hostage in a theater seat this one, if you're curious, wait until the DVD - but most likely not see it until the end. |
I do not care for this movie at all. I thought it looked good from the previews, but I was very disappointed. Julianne Moore was carjacked and, unbeknownst to the thief, his 4-year-old son is in the back seat. If the writer had stuck to this concept could have been great. Previews will also appear as the story could center around this rare, abandoned children's home Freedomland name, but maybe 10 minutes throughout the film took place there. Julianne Moore was just very frustrating because I could not get a complete thought at any point throughout the film. His son disappears, which is sad, but I feel like I'm watching a drugged the woman rather than a mother in mourning. Also frustrating were the 72 other sub-plots that were going on. Some characters are introduced, but the reasoning of its introduction, is never clear. I felt as if he had been too many bits and pieces that it does not matter much. I like Julianne Moore and Samuel L. Jackson, but I do not like this movie. |
