I was at Park City and I have to say apart from a few films, is a very Downer. Most of the films boldly tried to explore serious topics, but considers it important to self. After the intensity of seeing a couple of these films earlier in the morning, FINISH THE GAME, a slight parody was the perfect movie to let out some stress through laughter. Director Justin Lin skillfully takes aim racial stereotypes and the ridiculous nature of the movie biz, making a mockery of worldwide door-to-door salesman to the diligent Asia med students. Lin actors, many of whom had previously worked with, inhabit the world he has created perfectly. Among others, there are fans of Roger as "Breeze Loo", the B-movie star who is perfectly delirious, Meredith Scott Lynn as a casting director "Eloise Gazdag," the character you love to hate, and Sung Kang as "Kim Cole "The more anxious-lout" player competing for the party. The costume design adds a wonderful visual element to the piece, and I take my hat off to all those who had to don the Bruce Lee-Esquire overalls. In general, is everything to be provided.
Only seen this movie in a company of friends and I am very disappointed with him. I saw a trailer for the first time a couple of months ago and although it was a great premise - Yes, a little ridiculous and, perhaps, too post-modern for its own good, but at least it seems to be a fun thing to see. The premise of the film is simple and shows you in the first minute of the film - Bruce Lee died while filming "Game of Death," which leaves behind 12 minutes of footage that a survey of producers is ready to explode. They start a nation-wide search for a double, so they can film the rest of the movie. And so we enter the group of hopefuls who wish to take the place of captain or just get a first job acting. The jokes are tongue in cheek, but the problem with them is that they are simply not funny. The entire movie is filmed in a pseudo-documentary style that has become a technique of most overpaid in the past 10 years of independent film. The situations and plot lines are sometimes cute, above all, predictable, but definitely not smart enough. The story really is like a long episode of "Office" (U.S. version), and has a twitch to start in place of channel surfing. I'm not sure how many fans of Bruce Lee are still out there, but this movie has very little to do with his job and only takes the premise and runs with it - unfortunately, the end result is bland and devoid of any creative spark .
I just saw this in Park City. I waited in line for two hours and I have to say it was worth it. The premise is incredibly strong and the film is full of kooky characters enough for Christopher Guest proud. This is a solid and intelligent film. I was laughing out loud constantly. The main thing I like about film is that these are issues that, without a hit in the face with it. Ultimately, it shows in a fun way that things have not changed at all over time. the performances were strong and shook the music. The camera work is authentic and the colors just Popper. in general, go see when you leave.
I had high hopes for this movie (after reading some of the positive feedback). I was sadly disappointed. Most of the characters are extremely boring. There were some introductions to replace Bruce Lee main characters, but none of them seemed in the least bit interesting. Really, really tried to give this movie a chance, but it never really came across any level. The action scenes are lame (I guess that is supposed to be funny, but they were not). The in-depth analysis of character not only of work, except to show that this film was shot on a low budget. (Was it ever in theaters?) I think there was a scene funny, but I can not remember what it was (it was near the end that is all I can remember). The redemption of an issue was that most of the players is not completely blow - something that seemed better than most porn stars. (I know it is not much, but it's better than nothing).
It is the worst of times: Bruce Lee had died under mysterious circumstances, and every movie studio in the world, apparently, was dying of cash in it. We, the faithful were lining ourselves for every two-bit knockoff that promised to finally reveal the secrets of the images GAME OF DEATH. Frustrating? You bet your bippy that era. As bad as charlatans, the final straw was the "official" release of the images themselves: GAME OF DEATH has to be one of the cheesiest movies in history. Bad enough that they used only a portion (12 minutes), the lack of images (such as John Shortly later show, there is sufficient understanding of footage shot at least a third of a feature-length film), the dummy (not "double") what position his way through the rest of the movie seems to have strengthened straight from one of these Knockoffs. Justin Lin and company have managed to capture the feel of the early 70's and frankly there are some hilarious moments in FINISHING THE GAME. The bad news is that the "actual finished film is even fun in a goofy sorta way.
Just saw this movie in VC Filmfest 2007 on Thursday night 05/03. It was a big surprise that the way this film came out. Justin Lin was born in 1973 - the same year that Bruce Lee's death. When I saw this movie, is so real that you can not believe it was done in 2007 by a director who was born in era.All only that the details were well organized almost forgot that this is a mocumentry rather than actual scenes. According to Justin Lin on the response of Q & A after the film, this movie was shot in 18 days and no budget .... it's like WOW! - Mission: Impossible. There are so many actors in this film and some of them are merely recognizable, like James Franco and Leonardo Nam and Brian Tee. Other main characters share equitably the scenes and most of them were really funny. I like Meredith Scott Lynn, who plays the more casting director, a hearing was recalled when people talked about this movie. Justin Lin and Josh Diamond wrote the screenplay filled with funny lines and it really works. is a totally different movie Return of luck tomorrow or Tokyo Drift. And turned back - Justin Lin is someone who can wait.
