| Put this on the last night not knowing anything about it and was pleasantly surprised. The plot is interesting and ended with a nice touch. Stiller and Barrymore worked well together and had a good chemistry, and was a pleasant surprise to see a comedy without too many attempts at silly antics. There are very few laugh out loud moments, but I was smiling on several occasions. Definitely reminds me of the War of the Roses, which is not bad, and the game is very good. I liked the end too, although I would have gone absolutely mental if they are. Not what I expected at all. Anyone waiting for Ben Stiller comedy regularly as X-Men will be disappointed, but if this approach with an open mind, you should be fine. Overall, pretty good, and earned a 7 out of ten of me. |
| I think this is an entertaining and very funny comedy by Danny DeVito, Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore are well cast, but the real star of the film is Eileen Essel as the old lady. Stiller and Barrymore are a married couple who buy a duplex in Brooklyn, then discover that there is an old tenant who lives above, then it begins to wreak havoc in your personal life by playing the TV all night and get to make your Stiller work all day, instead of letting him write his new book. Then it gets too much for them and they decide that the time has come to kill her. There are some very funny slapstick moments of comedy in this movie, especially the scene in which Stiller and Barrymore are giving the old CPR, There is also a good twist at the end of the film. One of the things I frusturated most was the fact that they could not kill the elderly and had to hire a hit-man in the selling price of all things. The twist at the end was kind of cool, does not see that one coming. Another thing that got me is that none of the problems that have occurred, probably, if Stiller just put your foot down at the beginning and said that since the stock market, "No." Or just not answer the door.
