| I admit being a fan of Ben Kingsley, from Gandhi. I like the actor and wanted to see this movie for quite some time. However, from the description in the case of DVD and photos on the box front, I have always been off lease. I suppose it is true, we do judge books (and DVDs) for their covers at times. Ah, thank God for my public library where they could get for free. This was a surprise. A good movie with a wonderfully convincing performance by Academy Award winner Sir Ben Kingsley. He brings good solid flavor all its functions and its performance was enhanced by the large portrait of his wife by Shohreh Aghdashloo. However, Jennifer Connelly was as bland and boring as usual. I do not feel the slightest pity for his character in this movie. She just seemed to be wallowing through it. Too bad. What a missed opportunity. The film is not a great movie for me, but a good movie. It is worth seeing insurance. |
| I saw the movie last night for the second time. It has been about a year or two since I had last seen it. Half of the film I wondered if I would be able to take it. Do not get me wrong. This is an amazing film that should be seen, but you have to choose your time and be prepared for that. Another commentator comrades already explained my views on this movie. It is without doubt one of the most artfully made films. Perelman and excellent cinematography uses large number of symbols that leave for you to decipher. Ben Kingsley, Jennifer Connelly and Shohreh Agdashloo give knockout performances. Both Connelly and Kingsley disappear into their characters difficult. We sympathize for both characters, that bothers a measure, yet we know that their actions are not their fault, these people are just human beings trying to fight for what they believe is their right. | I knew that this film was a "Downer" and knew the basic outline of the history of the reviews I had read. However, I was prepared to end the scandalous. This is one of those movies that I'm glad I seen it was a well-made, well acted, beautifully filmed movie. That said, let me add that I had to do a "feel good" movie so that I could then go to sleep when I went to bed. "House of Sand and Fog" is powerful. There are no bad characters in the movie, so you can not put the blame for the turn of events in any particular character. The film is disturbing, precisely because it becomes like all the characters and events seem both plausible and almost inevitable, given the personalities involved. I did not care much for Ben Kingsley in "Gandhi", a film overpraised in my opinion (I mean, how can an Oscar Award in Costume Design for a movie in which everyone wore white napkins?), But definitely deserves praise for this performance. | I hate to use cliches, but this was one of the most powerful and compelling films I've seen. I'm sorry for those who have nothing of it. For me, was an obvious allegory of the situation in Israel, with two people injured (s) in the fight against the "house". Lester, in my opinion, represents the U.S., seeming to care for the welfare of a party, but in reality concerned only with their own interests. After all, is ineffective in its attempt to negotiate a compromise, so literally in the slaughter of the innocents - a tragic fiasco in which nobody wins, and everyone (including Lester / US) lose. One of the rare instances where I wished I could have spoken with the author directly after seeing the film. |
