| This DVD movie King Arthur suffers from a number of problems. First, it claims to be historically accurate, it is not. Given that the producer (Bruckheimer) is also behind CSI highly inaccurate, perhaps not entirely surprising, however, is disturbing. Because that's the thing with the legend of King Arthur is a legend. That's not supposed to be historically correct, and therefore the creation of a "historically correct" the version that is doomed from the start. However, 'King Arthur' managed to stack several historical mistakes on top of that. Moreover, there are other aspects to a film, but again, no fare very well. The act is just as well, the dialogue is no better, and above all, the King Arthur film is slow. It's nice to see, though: the picture is well done, beautiful landscapes, as are the actors. You ugly difficulty finding people in this film. Again, the presence is felt Bruckheimer, with emphasis on appearance and blatant disregard of any credibility. So if you are in any way for entertainment and eye candy, look no further. The beautiful Keira Knightly, especially towards the end of the King Arthur Adventure movie is almost a reason for that. However, if you want a King Arthur Adventure film with real content, this is not for you. In other words, is a typical contemporary Hollywood film. |
| I have seen an advance copy of the DVD, Fuqua's Director's Cut. I believe this version, the original vision, is much better than the original version. Touchstone / Disney insisted on cleaning of violence in the battles, giving a fairy-tale ending (the wedding) and other fixed PG. Fuqua's audio commentary is very frank in discussing this, as well as offering ideas on how / why they made the choice he made. The DVD also shows the original ending, which I found much more subtle and less evident (in the nose, "as they say in the business). Other extras include 17 minutes of a "Making of" Featurette, which is an interesting and informative panel discussion with Knightley, Owen, Dancy, Gryffudd, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, writer David Franzoni and director Anthony Fuqua. Overall, I think this is a worthwhile purchase. I understand that will be available from December 5. |
| I am a retired archaeologist and scholar of ancient history, especially in Britain. In my opinion, this film: King Arthur portrays the actual settings that may have been, as well as the historical background of 'Arthur' and mythically warriors before being re-created by the French, the English writer and Cretien, Mallory. Historically, it would have been a Roman / British family, and although not mentioned by name in the text after the first historians Gildas and Nennius, there are mysterious "advice" in his writings of "Dux Bellorum 'being named at this time in the 5th C. CE. Whether they were writing about the historical Ambrosius Aurelianus either listed as "Arthur" will probably never be known with certainty, but I felt a lot more credible than the other movies that historically have been associated with this topic. | "King Arthur" with Clive Owen is a fascinating film. There is a strong argument with fine acting, good direction, and lots of action. I think this movie: King Arthur was very unfairly undervalued by the critics, DVD movie King Arthur and did not give it much of a chance. Perhaps this is because it is unusual to have a legend Arturo? Too rough and medieval to everyone? Pity, because it is fantastic and convincing in many ways, a strange mystique all its own. I was very happy to see the DVD to get a closer look at history and see some background on the script and the making of the film. I only have one major concern: an end to the alternative provided in the DVD is a great improvement for the entire theater release. In my opinion, much more convincing and ending so that the best fit to be shown in theaters. Why change it? That would be a good story to hear. |
| I have always enjoyed the legends and the neat and tidy fairy tale versions were wonderful when I was a child, but now I'm older, like to see more realistic version of my favorite stories, and King Arthur is one of them . Although historically minded friends have pointed out some historical errors, I found enough with my basic knowledge of the time and I think that was accurate enough for the average viewer. I liked that the time was that the basis of the legend may have come. The romance was played in, but even this, which I appreciated. The traditional triangle among Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot is suggested, but never a major point of the plot, which in turn I liked. |
