Shy, chain-smoking, insomniac Peter McGowan is an L.A. playwright with a string of hits that preceded his current ten years of failed productions. His mother-in-law is sinking into senility, a stranger is meandering the neighborhood claiming to be him, neighbors have a new dog that barks all night; his wife wants to have a child, and he does not: he's become impotent. He's working on a new play when a single mom moves in next door with her 8-year-old daughter. His wife immediately invites the girl into the McGowan household. Will this child stir Peter's paternal feelings? Will she also help him get his dialogue right? And what of his doppelganger and the neighbor's dog?

Spoilers here. I like constructions like this: - Doubling of the narrative between what is written and the story of his writing - Folding of time, we were shuffled - Actors in the capacity of stakeholders: in this case Branagh sitting quiet, while others act as their avatars - Many of the lots and constructive support symmetries: the woman without a child and the woman who does not want a child; the `real 'Peter and his Doppler; the` real' Peter and his actor, a director who leads by conducting ; The impotence and writer's block, others. - A lot of clever puns as Word symmetries. The most obvious of these is the symmetry of the currency of neighbor (dog) who dies, and Pedro curmudgeon (who also dies). This type of game is deftly introduced in the dialogue between the two Peters, comically punctuated by Branagh saying 'I have nothing of that, "after a Fusilade of the other. - All the support of good players. In this case our principle of Shakespeare, and the wife of our top actor. These people know how to work together to keep the words suspended in front of us while flowing faster than normal and oddly syncopated.
This gem is overlooked anything they want from a movie. It's funny, has great performance, and better yet - a plausible and well-established plot! Kenneth Branagh shines as Peter, a writer with writer's block, and Robin Wright Penn is perfect as his son-expectancy wife. The dynamics presented are new and unique, as is the humor. You will not find tired jokes in this movie! However, I find myself laughing out loud sincerely on more than one or two occasions. This is a great drama about the average age of life, perceptions and relationships. My advice? See this movie! It's really great! Kenneth Branagh is one of my favorite actors, and that is how I stumbled across this movie - I suggest you do the same.
How to kill his neighbor's dog is a smart, funny, original comedy for adults - a rare pleasure these days. Occurrences fly fast and furious, but Kenneth Branagh, as playwright Peter McGowan, has the verbal dexterity to pull them, of course. It is a pleasure to be reminded of what an accomplished and versatile actor who is not in a features-from Shakespeare. The main argument of the film, in which Pedro reluctance to have children, and its growing relationship with a neighbor boy, Eros Ramazzotti with sentimentality, but prevents thanks to strong performances and writing. The style of the film and its original, peculiar subplots that lifted well above the ordinary.
