The film covers the period of time Senator John McCain spent as a POW in the Hanoi Hilton during the Vietnam War. For those of you who enjoy this movie, but they have not read the book I strongly encourage you to do so. For those of you who have read the book and felt a little dissatisfied with the film, I feel the same. Unless I missed it left out Hanoi Jane's visit to the camp which is totally unacceptable. In addition, McCain's theft of other people washrag was not part of the film. I'm glad a movie was made from this great book, but as is often the case, the film is substantially less than the book. |
FAITH OF MY FATHERS account the true story of John McCain's military service, the capture and imprisonment in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Almost all of this made for television of the film is shot with a handheld camera so the drama is done in close and personal. The pace is fine, despite the commercial breaks tend to disrupt more than the average. He was the highlight of this production. The unknown actor John McCain playing really captures its essence. About the only thing not working in my parents' FE was the shower scene peeping. It is uncalled for and not advance the story. Curiously, the conflict in FAITH OF MY FATHER - Vietnam communist captors in front of the American prisoners of war - no longer has water as Vietnam today is mainly known as the shiny new tourist destination in Asia. All the torture of John McCain and his fellow soldiers was ultimately for nothing. The heroic resistance of the inmates of America also was futile. As John McCain can run for president again, war crimes shown in the FAITH OF MY FATHER is connected to the current abuse of Iraqi prisoners. It would be a President John McCain, a torture victim of the Vietnam War, to approve the proxy of torture and rape trained canines that are currently being used today in the war against Iraqi prisoners? FAITH OF MY FATHER is a worthy companion piece to 1987 of the HANOI HILTON - another drama focuses on the daily suffering, torture, brutal treatment and the American POWs in North Vietnam from the prison at Hoa Lo. If I am not mistaken, John McCain was a technical adviser HANOI HILTON. Very interesting. |
Faithful biography that represents the life of Senator John McCain as a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War. From a strictly military family, McCain is able to weather the storm in confinement and the brutality of the North Vietnamese during the conflict. A weak student at the academy, McCain is backed by his father, a very good performance by Scott Glenn. Glenn portrays a totally dedicated military officer who did not even stir an eyelid, when informed that his son had been captured. The torture chambers and the torture of McCain and others is well demonstrated. McCain is certainly the picture as a hero in this movie. He refused to be released if it meant having to participate in the propaganda of the North Vietnamese. A very good story that dealt with military honor, call to duty and patriotism for our eternal men and women in uniform. |
I was not surprised, but surprised by the treatment that Senator McCain received during his 5 years as prisoners of war. I thought the movie was quite moving in the fact of how the military can prepare itself mentality of "keeping" the survival and the fight against the brainwashing tactics of that. I was surprised however to question why the Vietnamese did not just shoot him and the rest of the prisoners of war ...... Why not leave when given a chance? I think we should have been more movies like this out soon after ended the conflict "to show the American people more in-depth treatment of our herons. With this said, that, I think, has been more open, understanding and welcoming arms reached to our home herons. I thank each of them every day in prayer :-) |
This story is a great tribute to those who endured the horror of being a prisoner of war not only during the Vietnam War, but any conflict. I knew that Senator McCain of history at the time that I was 21 years old when he was released, but did not know the whole story so far. The young man who portrays McCain, Shawn Hatosy, is riveting, that catches all the emotions that the senator must have gone through during those five years. You can see by tapping the relationship he had with his father was a career armed force that drew from the years when he was jailed. Will make you think .... how another human being can be so completely insensitive to another human being to think nothing of inflicting such torture and pain. I know that the recent photos of our own military horrific torture inflicted on others makes me see that any human can be inhuman, it does not matter who you are or what country they were brought up in. But that is no excuse and you can see that in this story of how a man was tall and above their captors and has never lost his respect for himself or other prisoners there with him. God bless John McCain. |
U.S. Senator and presidential candidate John McCain on the history of his five and a half years in Vietnamese prison camp as a prisoner of war said here. Most members of the cast are not well known, but they all play very well in this series. The film is not better to show the brutality of war and humanity that sometimes falls. The actor who plays John McCain as the wounded soldier makes a brilliant job in the image of him as a complex but pleasant companions. The story offers a fund with respect to its complex relationship with the father of John, a senior military, the man and the family's military history. Just to see the mother, Roberta, and hear his reaction that his son could not be coming home when his plane was shot down. The same scene of his wife and mother of their three children also shown. We also see how he met his first wife, Carol. The five and a half years is well documented as a painful, violent and inhuman at times, but in the character built to protect his squadron John, and stay behind instead of going home early that afternoon. I could not bear to leave his men who became his friends behind. This film is about politics, but of a man in the battle to survive with broken limbs, but not a broken heart. |
Shawn Hatosy seems to be managing her career carefully. For a young, relatively unknown actor who seems to look for work in movies with casts that include managed, well-known co-workers. He has not made the mistake of accepting everything that is offered. The story (of McCain's harrowing experiences as prisoners of war) must make a appreciate what McCain has given to his country, but my lasting impression of this movie is the work of the Hatosy. His was a very, very good piece of acting. This is an actor who has established a floor with her work that does not go below. Has a relatively high level that ensures that viewers everything that appears in will be good or very good. |
